New Admiral

We are excited to announce that we have a new Admiral. The Board has voted unanimously to promote Michael Holmes to the post of Admiral in recognition of his strong and continuing support for the Club.

Michael has been involved in sailing with BMYC for nearly 20 years now, firstly with a Jeanneau SunFast 32 'Tsuru' and more recently with his Seaquest Prima 38 'Baradal'. Together with the crew he has represented the Club in sailing events all along the south coast from Brighton to the Isles of Scilly.

Michael was Commodore from 2017 to 2020 and President from 2021 to 2024, seeing us through the major transition from a shed on a borrowed part of the wall to the splendid floating Clubhouse that we know and love today. Since then, he has continued to play an active role in the management of the long-term stability of the Club, ensuring that we were able to recover quickly from the rapid departure of our previous Stewards and now working with Trevor to help him to negotiate the vagaries of keeping us all happy and fed whilst ensuring the continued success of the Clubhouse venture. The Board still regularly seek his advice on many issues and I am sure that you will join with us in agreeing that he adds a good deal to our Club.

Admiral is not an automatic promotion from President and indeed in the history of the Club we have only had one Admiral before, Admiral Jack Voss. Instead, it is an honorific, bestowed in recognition of continued service to the Club. Jack of course remains in our hearts and minds.
