The entrance channel lies between the East and West Breakwater arms marked by fixed red and green vertical lights, located at 500 48.45N 0000 06.30W; 1 mile east of Palace Pier.
When approaching from the west, please allow 200mtrs clearance from the end of the Western Breakwater to avoid exiting traffic. In heavy weather approach from the southeast to avoid much of the backwash from the breakwaters.
The entrance channel is dredged to -2.0m C.D. Storms tend to drive sand in to form a bank to starboard (East) of the entrance channel (just north of the end of the Eastern Breakwater) and shoaling may occur in the entrance channel between dredges; the dredged channel is buoyed by red and green markers leading to the visitors berthing; for the latest depth information contact the marina reception.
When arriving at Night the breakwater lights can be lost in the general background lighting. The inner and outer harbour areas are well lit, calm and well protected from swell and wind affording ample room to drop sails.
When visibility in the marina entrance is less than 1000 metres the fog horn located on the southern end of the Western Breakwater is activated (two every 30 sec).
On passing the Inner Entrance and entering the marina berthing, the Visitor Pontoon (Pontoon 10) is located ahead and slightly to port. Unless previously allocated a berth, visitors should moor there on arrival and report to the marina reception, which is clearly marked on the end of the West Jetty, on the first floor. Reference copies of Admiralty Notices to Mariners can be found in the marina reception.
